A Prayer for Your Marriage

Prayer is essential to a Christian marriage. Pray this marriage prayer to invite God’s grace and goodness into your marriage. 

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come before you with a grateful heart, acknowledging that you are the author of love and marriage. Your Word teaches us in Genesis 2:24 that a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Lord, I seek your guidance and blessings upon my marriage.

Proverbs 18:22 reminds us that he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. I thank you for the gift of my wife (or allowing me to be a wife). Help my spouse and me to cherish and honor each other, growing together in love and understanding.

Grant us the wisdom described in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, where two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. May our union be a source of strength, support, and encouragement for one another. Bind us together with a cord that cannot be easily broken.

In times of challenge, may we turn to your promises. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us that you have plans for us, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give us a future and a hope. Help us to trust in your plan for our marriage, knowing that you are always with us.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 teaches us about the qualities of love – patience, kindness, not being easily angered, and always persevering. Lord, fill our hearts with your love so that we may reflect these qualities in our relationship.

Finally, we ask for your blessing on our home. Psalm 127:1 reminds us that unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. May our marriage be built on the solid foundation of your love and grace.

We pray all these things in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ.
