How to Make Guys Respect You
“Guys these days only want one thing . . .” She rolled her eyes and crossed her hands across her chest revealing the top of her hot pink bra
“Hmm . . . I wonder if that’s all guys or just the ones you’re attracting?” I answered back.
“No, it’s all of them! Trust me.”
This is a conversation I had with a 15-year old not too long ago. I felt for her. On one hand, it does seem that today’s young males are sex-obsessed. I mean, just turn on any TV show (or the commercials for that matter!) or tune in to any radio station, and you’ll be flooded with images and messages of this young sex revolution.
My 7-year old was watching Jessie on the Disney channel last night and a little girl (who’s probably 7 or 8) was talking about how “in love” she was. WITW! I made him turn it off when she and her little love interest started hugging romantically and the crowd began cheering and “ooohing.”
Guys Respect You If You Show Em How
Sometimes you just gotta show ’em! Listen to what I shared with a group of teen girls at the She Matters Girls Empowerment Conference last week.
Today’s Tweet Moment: Tweet: If a guy isn’t willing to wait for you, then he doesn’t deserve to have you!
It Starts Young
Some people encourage very young boys (I’m talking 4 and 5 year-olds to be “macs” or “players.” A well-intended, but misguided woman once smiled and told me that Collin (my 5 year-old) was gonna be a “heartbreaker” one day. She meant it as a compliment. She was trying to say that because he’s so cute (and he is absolutely adorable!), that he would have a trail of desperate women following him. The devil is a lie! LOL. I’m not raising my kids like that.
If we spent more time teaching our kids to love and respect themselves and each other, we’d have a lot less heartbreaking and “playing” going on once they’re older.
You Teach People How to Treat You
If we don’t respect ourselves, we can’t expect anyone else to.
Ladies/girls, if you want guys to respect you, respect yourself! And don’t expect anything less from them!
Now it’s your turn. In the comments below, share a revelation you had about guys respecting you. Maybe it’s a lesson you learned . . . or one you shared with someone.
Either way, I’d love to hear from you!
You’re Worth It!
